Something for everybody

Welcome to our "In Search of the Gothic" courses page.

Not everybody looks for the same things as we all have different tastes, likes, needs, profiles and life views.

However, you will agree with me that it doesn't matter where your interests lie, that with the Gothic we always end up analysing and investigating the doings of the human psyche. That's why we love delving deep into its labyrinthine corridors.

Our core research and teachings are guided by the profound insights of Jungian psychology and our mission is to explore the enigmatic realms of the Gothic through the lens of archetypes, symbolism, the collective unconscious and the dream world.

Join us on a transformative journey as we unravel the mysteries of the Gothic genre, from its haunting landscapes to its tortured characters. Through insightful analysis and thought-provoking discussions, we aim to uncover the hidden meanings and psychological truths embedded within these narratives.

Discover how the shadow self manifests in the eerie landscapes of Gothic literature, and how it mirrors the inner struggles of the human psyche. Explore the depths of the unconscious mind, where fears and desires intertwine to shape our perceptions of reality and discover how all the symbols that appear in the dreams of your favourite Gothic stories and authors can also hide some truths about your own dream world.

By embracing the rich symbolism and timeless themes of the Gothic, our courses will provide you with a deeper understanding of yourself and the world around you.

Our courses are much more than mere lessons on theoretical information, they are a call to introspective thinking and reflection through which you can navigate the complexities of the human experience and embark on a journey of self-discovery and transformation.

let's start from your beginning

Although every course has a different purpose and use, they all offer a unique and enriching online experience for those intrigued by the intersection of literature, psychology, and personal growth.

Some of the main takeaways you'll walk away with when doing our courses are:

  • Insightful Exploration:

Our courses offer in-depth analysis and exploration of the Gothic genre from a psychological perspective, providing valuable insights into human nature and behaviour. Taking into account the historical time, and the cultural contexts of the different productions, you will acquire a more objective point of view of the content, which enriches the learning experience as it broadens your mental framework.

  • Unique Perspective:

By incorporating Jungian psychology, the courses offer a unique angle on the Gothic genre. Each course is addressed to those interested in pursuing interdisciplinary studies and having a deeper understanding of literature and artistic productions with Gothic elements through their psychological analysis.

  • Engaging Content:

Every course aims at stimulating thought-provoking discussions and analysis to encourage engagement between the mentor/s and the student/s. Those who seek intellectual challenges and meaningful discourses will not be disappointed by the multilayered approaches and symbols that each production is made of and all the possible interpretations that will be triggered in the audiences' minds.

  • Personal Growth:

By examining the psychological themes inherent in the Gothic, you have the opportunity for personal introspection and growth, as you will naturally relate the proposed themes to your own experiences and understanding of the world from a holistic point of view, as well as being encouraged to keep amplifying your ideas with further research and investigation.

  • Community Building:

One of the best connections happens in class. The first steps to build up a community of like-minded individuals interested in both the Gothic genre and Jungian psychology, starts here, as we enter the realms of the unknown and liminal corners of the chosen productions and topics. It's through the courses that we can turn our common passion into a hub for discussion, collaboration, and the sharing of ideas in our community group.

Meet Your Mentor

Let me tell you a little secret.

I was never an outstanding student, everything was very hard for me. I spent too much time trying to work out the individual in front of me - that is the teacher - and it was hard for my brain not to create stories in my head. Sometimes I drew mermaids with a friend when I was in primary school and I wrote short chaotic and creative stories with another in secondary to get out of our boredom.

Despite my apparent disinterest in the lessons, I've always loved being in a learning environment. When the teacher was right for me, I could even thrive and get good marks. I guess that says a lot about the educational system of the time.

I failed many times, but I've never given up studying. First was my passion for languages and later for other subjects like psychology, sociology, neuroscience and of course, Gothic literature.

The positive side of this not-so-straight-forward learning process is that my difficulties turned out to be great experiences to build upon later on in life and great tools to empathise with my students of all ages, preferences, profiles and backgrounds. My Gothic mind, among other traits and characteristics, made me prone to empathise with those who struggled with learning and society the most, those who were misunderstood and those who saw the world through a different lens. I felt I could help them see the light among the shadows.

My own difficulties trying to grasp concepts and putting them into practice have always helped me create and structure any course I wanted to build taking into account the complexity of some of the topics, the multiple and varied profiles of my students and how I would have liked to have learnt the Gothic when I first started my self-development journey.

It is possible that parts of my story resonate with you. If that is the case, then this is the sign you have been looking for all along.
