Like dreams, myths, and Gothic stories, the unconscious often speaks through symbols, atmospheres, fragments, and recurring images that resist immediate explanation. Yet these symbolic traces constantly leak into daily life from the moment we wake up.

The Descent is a free monthly newsletter exploring the intersections between Gothic literature, symbolic thought, dreams, culture, memory, and contemporary life through a deeply personal, yet academically grounded lens.

Rooted in the emotional and cultural atmosphere of each month, these reflections trace the ways certain themes return cyclically through literature, film, music, grief, embodiment, social experience, and the strange persistence of particular images and moods over time.
