The Thinking Room

Conversations to broaden your perspective

Explore questions that matter to you through literature, film, images, and conversation with Alicia Domínguez, writer and independent researcher.

Bring a question, an experience, or something you would like to think about more deeply. Together, we discover connections, examine familiar explanations, and make room for perspectives you may not have considered.

A space to explore your curiosity and for thoughtful conversation

The Thinking Room is for people who enjoy exploring ideas and want time to follow a question beyond its first answer.

You might recognise yourself in one of these situations:

  • Your life has changed, and the explanations you once relied on no longer seem to fit.

  • You want to explore a loss, transition, or experience that has received little recognition.

  • A book, film, character, or image has stayed with you, and you would like to investigate what it opens up.

  • You are curious about Gothic literature, symbolism, or Jungian perspectives.

  • You miss sustained, intellectually stimulating conversation without a course, assignments, or a programme to complete.

  • You would like to maintain your English or practise Spanish while discussing subjects that matter to you.

Or you can come simply for the pleasure of thinking together. You do not need specialist knowledge or a clearly formulated question.

What can you gain?

A conversation can help you find words for something difficult to express, discover an unexpected connection, or reconsider an explanation you have taken for granted.

Our exploration can offer:

A broader perspective
Consider how your experience connects with cultural narratives, inherited expectations, and other ways of seeing.

Language for what feels difficult to name
Use stories, images, and thoughtful distinctions to explore experiences that everyday language may struggle to hold.

Questions that take your thinking further
Examine assumptions, consider alternative interpretations, and recognise what remains uncertain.

A richer relationship with literature and film
Discover cultural works as resources for reflection that you can return to beyond the session.

Meaningful language practice, if you wish

Develop fluency and vocabulary through a conversation shaped around your interests.

You may leave with a clearer question, a useful distinction, a new connection, or a reading you want to pursue. Each encounter develops around what you bring.

What happens during a session?

We find a starting point.
You can bring an everyday experience, a question, a passage, or a film. Alternatively, choose from the monthly themes and questions connected to the rooms of The Library.

We explore through conversation and culture.
I bring questions, observations, and relevant material into our dialogue. A short literary passage, an image, or a film scene can offer another way into what we are discussing.

We examine the connections.
We consider what supports an interpretation, what challenges it, and what other readings might be possible. You are welcome to disagree, question an idea, or change direction.

We gather what you want to take away.
Towards the end, we return to the ideas and questions that have emerged. If you wish, I can suggest optional reading or viewing to continue the exploration.

No preparation, homework, or compulsory reading is required. Materials can be explored together during the encounter.

Reading, watching and listening as Conversation

My approach begins with a work, an image, a fragment, or an uncomfortable question.

We attend to what is there, explore possible meanings, and return to the work to examine what supports, or challenges, our interpretations.

Gothic literature offers a rich language for exploring ambiguity, memory, loss, belonging, and the unfamiliar within ordinary life. Houses, ghosts, monsters, and thresholds can bring questions into view that familiar explanations leave unexplored.

Jungian perspectives offer another lens for asking questions. We explore their possibilities while remaining open to other readings and to what does not fit.

“Think about who you are. Question what you inherit”

This principle guides our conversation: an invitation to examine inherited explanations and our own assumptions, while leaving room for what we do not yet understand.

A theme to return to

Each month, I offer a theme with several possible starting points. These might include:

  • The roles we inherit and the identities we outgrow.

  • Losses that remain unnamed or unrecognised.

  • Belonging, difference, and feeling out of place.

  • Homes, memories, and what we carry with us.

  • Monsters, ghosts, and the experiences they allow culture to express.

You can follow a theme across several conversations or bring a different question each time. The theme offers continuity; your interests shape the encounter.

English or Spanish

We can converse in English, Spanish, or a combination of both.

If language practice is part of your purpose, we agree on how to include vocabulary, corrections, and observations so they support your expression and preserve the flow of conversation.

For cultural exploration, we use the language in which you feel most comfortable.

We gather what you want to take away.
Towards the end, we return to the ideas and questions that have emerged. If you wish, I can suggest optional reading or viewing to continue the exploration.

No preparation, homework, or compulsory reading is required. Materials can be explored together during the encounter.

The person behind The Thinking Room

Untitled design (3)_edited_edited.png

I am Alicia Domínguez, a writer and independent researcher with a degree in English Philology and a Master’s in Jungian Psychology. I am currently studying for a Master’s degree focused on grief and bereavement processes.

My work brings together more than twenty years of teaching experience, the direction of my own language academy, and research into Gothic literature, culture, and difficult human experiences.

For years, my conversation classes became spaces where language learning and the exploration of everyday life met. The Thinking Room builds on that experience and connects it with my current writing and editorial research.

My ongoing studies in grief deepen my attention to loss, transitions, and experiences that are not always recognised by those around us. These questions also run through my writing: how absence persists, how stories give it form, and how culture makes space for what cannot simply disappear.

My essays published in 2026 include:

  • “The Misunderstood Role of Mary Winchester as a Fragmented Self: Identity, Motherhood and Death”, in Women in Supernatural, Critical Essays, published by McFarland.

  • “The Monstrous Mother: A Personal Journey Through Motherhood, Loss, and the Psychological Haunting Under the Gothic-Jungian Lens”, in Horror and Mother/hoods in Global Cultural Imaginaries, published by Demeter Press.

My publications and research inform the questions and materials we bring into conversation.
